It is a social enterprise, promoting sustainability and opportunity. ✰ TIME ✰ (Florida)
TIME create an immersive and otherworldly dancefloor experience that disarms, uplifts, and illuminates. The vibration of ancient mantra and spirit-syllable creates a grand umbrella under which all else can take shelter. When passed through this lens of divine love, rhythm marks the relentless ticking of eternity. This force reveals and dissolves, until song soars above all.

like you’ve never heard them b4, reborn from the beetle colony these mercurial shapeshifters scuttle back 2 the scene and their new songs will have you asking one thing: wtf are they smoking

Northern California-based guitarist Leland Vandermeulen performs pieces predominantly looped and layered in real time, showcasing the use of the electric guitar as a means for experimental sound design. You’ll hear a wide range of dynamics, ranging from lush ambience to abrasive noise, and all kinds of things in between. No rules, anything goes.

10/6 - So Much Light, Sun Riah (OKC), Kalm Dog

The solo project of local Sacramento/Davis artist Damien Verrett, So Much Light blends beats & electronic loops with super speedy math-rock-esque guitar parts, all behind his extremely dreamy vocals. It’s a musical performance not to be missed.

And then there’s Kalm Dog, the garage/lofi project of KDVS’s own Kris Nguyen. He’s super talented and writes some really creative original music. Kalm Dog is definitely a local favorite at this point.

Sun Riah, the alias of Oklahoma city musician M. Bailey Stephenson, is an experimental folk project that has a depth and sonic complexity all it’s own.

Be sure to come out and support these talented artists on Thursday October 6th. Music at 8pm. $5 suggested donation.

9/18 - Music Show: Selector Dub Narcotic (Olympia), Pets (Sac), San Kazakgascar (Sac)

We are extremely excited to host this show with three amazing projects on Sunday Sept. 18th. Doors at 7pm. Sliding scale donations from $5-10 dollars.

Selector Dub Narcotic is the spicy new dance project from legendary Olympia musician Calvin Johnson. Johnson is arguably the most foundational figure in the divisive indie-rock subgenre known as twee. As a member of Beat Happening and the Halo Benders and the head of K Records, Johnson helped shape the childlike, excessively quaint aesthetic that later gave rise to Wes Anderson movies and whatnot. But Johnson has also explored funk, dub, and electronic dance music over the years with his band Dub Narcotic Sound System. And now he’s continuing those pursuits under the name Selector Dub Narcotic. This is sure to be a wacky and sufficiently danceable set, so don’t miss it.

We’ve also got two sweet local bands to get things started. First it’ll be Sacramento shredders San Kazakgascar bringing their signature eastern psych feel, and then we’ll hear the likes of longtime local duo PETS with some surefire musical madness. Definitely worth checking out.

8/20 - WE ARE WOMYN: a showcase of art, comedy, and music

WE ARE WOMYN is a showcase of the work created by local self-identifying womyn and genderfluid folk in our community. The afternoon will begin with an exhibition of visual artists’ work, a live street art performance, and the Davis Flea Market. Following this, a performance by a local theater artist, an open mic, and comedy acts. The night will finish with music group performances.

Please keep in mind this is a safe space for our community members to present their work to an audience willing to listen to and respect their efforts. Material may touch on sensitive material and trigger emotions as a consequence of our societal constructs and the reality womyn and genderfluid folk live in.

80% of proceeds will go to Empower YOLO, a local service center for victims of sexual assault and domestic violence.

Food and beverages brought to you by Hot Italian and Davis Food Co-Op

<> Man Problems

<> The Bottom Feeders

<> Future Myth
About: “Making their way into the Bay Area’s indie rock scene, the four-piece San Jose natives, Future Myth, offer nostalgia-charged tunes that balance somber moments of longing with vibrant flashes of self-reflection. Released earlier this year in January, the band’s debut EP, Flashbulb Memories, showcases their versatility both sonically and lyrically. Obscure Sound describes the group as “highly capable crafters of melodic jangle-rock, with evident comparisons to the guitar-driven tranquility of Real Estate.” With their distinctive, catchy melodies in addition to healthy doses of vocal harmonies and shimmering effects, Future Myth set out to produce an experience that’s familiar, yet fresh and invigorating.”

<> Castles

Hailing from Portland, Oregon. Castles is a 4 piece, alternative, indie pop explosion with their music echoing shoegaze and indie-pop melodies. Recently, Castles celebrated the release of a self-titled EP recorded and mixed at Robot Boy Records in Eugene, Oregon. Self-described as Wayne Coyne falling asleep to Tame Impala, Castles has found a cozy niche in Portland’s dream-pop scene, blending pop influence, jangly riffs, and a touch of 60’s psychedelia.

7/9 - Personwhowatchestoomuchtelevision, Kalm Dog, Dan Thorpe

[ Personwhowatchestoomuchtelevision ]

There’s something comfortably numbing about the noise of technology, but it’s never enough.

personwhowatchestoomuchtelevision was written by Rhys Nixon and adapted for performance by Concrete Collective. Equally hypnotic and surreal, Nixon retells his technology induced nervous breakdown — complete with youtube videos of golden retrievers, not sleeping for a week, and waxing lyrical about birds.

The show dances through sensations of drifting apart and coming back together. Of being a man but not sure of what that means or why it’s important. Sensations of whether ‘man’ is something worth being. Of going through the motions when the motions have become foreign to you. Of being insignificant but part of something even if you don’t know what it is or whether you want to be.

“expressive and dramatic… personwhowatchestoomuchtelevision is a fine work, powerful and probing.” – Realtime Arts

5/6 - Black Live Matter

All Ages / FREE
May 6th6pm – 11pm
946 Olive Drive, Davis, CA

We are activists, organizers, and artists and we are calling on our local community to help create an art show that shifts the paradigm in Davis around Black lives; that demands real change from us both on local and national scales.

Our mission is simple, but the consequences far reaching – fight oppression, end white supremacy, and unlock our potential to reimagine our involvement in society. We argue art and literature have to be engaged in the struggle.

This show brings awareness to the continued role of art in student and community activism in the Black Lives Matter movement; showcasing the way art can be mobilized to radically change our community.

What does it mean for Davis to be committed to #BlackLivesMatter? Our vision for this show is to grapple with that question in meaningful ways – drawing artists and audiences into action. Art is not meant to be passively consumed, but rather made for action.

Expanding how we understand and experience this question is critical to engaging and mobilizing our community. By drawing together a community of activists and artists, we hope to build future connects between art, Black liberation, and student activism at UC Davis.

-Take Action-
There are a number of ways to get involved in our project! Below you’ll find three major ways to help us organize, agitate, and educate our community!
–You can create, submit, and share your art.
–Volunteering to help coordinate and display the show.
–Working with our social media team to spread the word.

He has recently been featured on MTV Iggy, in LA Record with a 3-page interview, and on Grimy Goods as a Hot New Artist. “Fusing genres like classical, punk, jazz and psychedelic rock, the band’s diverse sound manages to be free flowing and expansive at the same time
Beef Peddler’ was written collaboratively between all four band members, though the main theme (which kicks in right at the beginning) was written by our keyboard player Zack Bissell, and was originally a much slower and sludgier repeating phrase,” Bafus explains. “We constructed the entirety of the song based around that theme. The title came about from a real experience, in which a man showed up in front of Zack’s house in a van (not a business of any kind) and attempted to solicit them in their yard to buy a huge amount of raw beef from him.” –

Although relatively new to Tucson’s growing music scene, Burning Palms are fast becoming the next local export soon be on everyone’s radar. With aesthetic roots in American gothic literature, post punk, and 60’s garage, Burning Palms tiptoe the threshold of punchy psych-rock and seductive whimsy.

Taking its inspiration from the crown jewel of 60’s rock, and from a few more modern (yet tragically obscure) indie-pop masterminds, Deepak brings you its own special brand of psychedelic pop rock. 10/7 - Sleepaway Camp & Last House on the Left

Come one, come all!… Come any, if you so dare, for a night of terror, fear, scares, and waffles.

In celebration of this season of the witch, Third Space Art Collective will be hosting a night long horror movie marathon, catered with build-your-own-style homemade waffles, because horror movies and waffles just go together!

Featured films for the evening include:
“Sleepaway Camp”
1980’s slasher flick. More subtle, and with deeper undertones on the subject of sexuality and abuse, rather then the typical gore and torture-porn standards.

“The Last House on the Left”
In honor of the passing of Wes Craven, we present to you his landmark debut feature length film. Before Elm Street… before the Hills, before Woodsboro… Craven unleashed this unrelenting story of abduction and torture. Intermixed with a side-story reminiscent of old comedy duos of the first half of the 20th century, this film switches modes on the snap of a dime, all in order to enhance the very real terror on display.

$5 (includes free waffles with entry).

“Dazed and Confused is one of the best teen films ever made, and for many reasons. It stands the test of it’s time, along with George Lucas’ “American Graffiti” and John Landis’ “Animal House”. It shows the highs and lows of partying, friendship, and drugs. The plot is about upcoming seniors and freshmen in a Texas town on the full last day of School in 1976. The characters are very likable in this, well, at least most of them. Richard Linklater gives a great independent direction. This isn’t a film that encourages kids to do drugs, but it shows a true portrayal of teenagers in a America, in a very fun way. “Dazed and Confused” is one of my all-time favorite films, and one that I can watch over and over again. Well done.”

9/27 - KDVS Presents: Terror Pigeon + Religious Girls + The Yellow Dress + Kinda Rad, Kinda Sad

KDVS and Third Space Art Collective present…

Terror Pigeon (Nashville, TN)
Terror Pigeon’s music is glitter fingernail polish, watching the sunrise and hugging your best friend. Pulsating, building synth rhythms, popping and clicking drums and sing-a-long lyrics make you want to dance ’til you freak out and lose your mind. New York Magazine, The New York Times, Pitchfork and Vice have all said things, mostly things about you’re severely missing out if you don’t see them live given the chance.

Religious Girls (Oakland, CA)
Religious Girls are a diverse group of multi-instrumentalists, with each member hailing from separate musical backgrounds that ranges from metal to noise to math rock and pop. Using their talents, Religious Girls focus thier energy into creating beautiful harmonies and layering them over intricate percussive ryhthms.

The Yellow Dress (San Francisco, CA)
Started in San Francisco in 2007 by Dan Weiss and Jonathan Kirk Moyer. Over time they’ve grown and polished, adding members like an indie rock avalanche. They’ve been described as a Magnetic Fields with less self-loathing, and a Velvet Underground without all the drugs. They hate writing about themselves in the third person. They are here for you.

Picking up the signal, the crew realize that they are not alone on the spaceship when an alien stowaway is on the cargo ship.

9/4 - Otzi, Creepy, Little Legs, Static Symphony

This haunting three-piece from Oakland channels the spirit of Juju-era Siouxie, Euro synth wailers and the tortured souls of early humyns trapped in glacial ice.

Creepy Little Legs
Woodland’s Creepy Little Legs may spend their off hours digging on horror punk records, but they write and play with an energy that blends touches of Northwest Riot Grrl and the heartland punk of Pollard and Westerberg.

Static Symphony
Music bloggers worldwide will soon be referring to this two-piece as “Stockton’s latest hotness.” Featuring the drummer of Kismet Aura, they’re one of the newest acts to emerge from the fertile primordial ooze of San Joaquin County, which gave us Pavement, Godspeed 209, Monster Treasure and other legends.

9/5 - Lauren Lavin, Ojai, The Magic Bullets

9/6 - Media Jeweler, Pregnant, Warm Tape

Media Jeweler (LA)

“Debut LP. “$99 R/T Hawaii” aims to capture the relentless restlessness of being alive on this increasingly weird and overstimulating planet. It was recorded and mixed in a casual and really quite nice three-day session during the dawn of spring at Machines with Magnets by Seth Manchester and Keith Souza (Battles, Lightning Bolt, etc.). It was mastered a week later by XOQ (Liars, Factory Floor, Martin Gore, etc.).”

Pregnant (Sacramento)

Warm Tape (New Jersey)

6/23 - Alex Schweder Talk

6/23 – 7:00pm at Third Space Art Collective

Alex Schweder is an architect by training and an artist by nature. His examination of place having an effect on humans as well as humans’ effects on place has led him to his own brand of “performance architecture”. His works range from scratch and sniff wall paper and inflatable buildings to inhabitable self contained structures. His recent work called “Counterweight Roommates” found Alex and collaborator Ward Shelley living for a week on his house tower all while connected by a rope and pulley system. It was recently purchased by the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Check out his work here:

Alex will present his fascinating body of work in a talk on June 23 at 7pm in Suite 1 at Third Space Art Collective. There will be a suggested sliding scale donation of $0-$5.

6/19 - KDVS Presents: Blood Sister † The Strange Land † Starrsha

Blood Sister (San Francisco)
“Blood Sister is back with their heady brand of blown-out rippers. Ezana Edwards, formerly of Brooklyn act Night Manager, relocated to San Francisco after the band parted ways and initially started jamming with members of Bay Area mainstays such as Ganglians, The Mallard, and Warm Soda for early Blood Sister shows. Edwards, who handles guitar/vocals, enlisted K. Dylan Edrich (ex-the mallard) on bass and Rachel Zisette on drums to complete Blood Sister’s current live band.

On his new self-titled EP for Bloodmoss Records, Edwards wrote and recorded all of the songs himself using a variety of studios and techniques that were vital for its completion. Blood Sister has and will always be as loud as possible, and the dynamic song structures, screeching guitars, and surging blasts this time around don’t just make up songs, they make up a machine. And it’s a vicious one.”

The Strange Land (San Francisco)
“One of the best new bands coming out of San Francisco, The Strange Land make dark, deeply psychedelic music with a fresh, unique take that pounds your eardrums and leaves you banging your head to the fresh tunes. Think bad trip while hanging on the beach watching mega waves crash repeatedly. HIGHLY recommended.”

Starrsha (Davis)

“[Immerse yourselves] in a dreamy tidal wave of beautifully smeared riffage” – Chris Hayes (KDViations)

6/29 - Ridgeway // Brave Season // Wild Kings

Ridgeway (Orange County)

Their new release Notes From The Underground has been gaining some hype within the local scene down south. Their post-rock / emo sound stands on its own but with the lush singing of Ybarra, it really makes for a great EP. Davis is stoked to have them and you’re gonna miss out on something beautiful if you don’t go.

Brave Season (Yuba City)
Some of Yuba City’s finest musicians. They somehow combine elements of math rock, emo, pop punk, and folk music to create some of the catchiest jams in the underground scene.

Wild Kings (Davis)
Feat. members of the local hardcore band Spines. These dudes are throwing out some fast thrashy jams that Davis doesn’t get enough of.
